Before & After :: Somerville Condo

Wow! Has this Fall been a blur or what?! I’ve taken some time away from the blog for our move {more on that soon} and some precious family time.  How are we into mid-November already?! While my personal life has been a bit crazy I’m lucky to have my team holding everything together at the office. Our work is stronger than ever and we’re excited about sharing the behind the scenes with you here on the blog.

Once our projects are fully installed {including artwork and accessories} we call in a professional photographer to help us document the work. It’s always fun for us to celebrate the beautiful photographs but when we look at them next to the “before” shots that’s when we realize just how much of a transformation we were able to achieve!

This client has impeccable taste and already owned some great pieces.  We were hired to help her pull everything together, elevate her style and turn this new house into HER home. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we love working with clients who know what they love and this stylish gal has an eye for design for sure.

When KMID was brought onto the project the space was empty. We love a blank canvas and this gave us full reign to really bring this space to life. We unified the open floor plan with wallpaper by Cole and Son starting at the front of the living room all the way through the dining and kitchen area. We framed out the windows with a deep blue fabric by Jim Thompson with the help of our window treatment guru Colleen Maloney of Window Elegance, AKA my beautiful mother. Also please note the black and white trim along the lead edge and lucite drapery poles {LOVE it!}. This room has our senior designer, Thiara Borges, written ALL OVER IT!

I am still whirling with excitement with how all of these elements came together. From the vintage mid-century pink Murano table lamp with custom stone final to the green lacquered drum table and red velvet club chair…I mean don’t you just want to be friends with the girl who lives here?!

Ready for the full 360?!

This striking custom bookshelf was designed by my partner in design crime, the ever talented Thiara Borges??  Yup! #makeitcustom

The dining table and side chairs were the client’s own and we just added the inlayed bone  chairs from Anthropologie to help ground the dining area.  Pair that with dash of hand loomed Madeline Weinrib rug and pinch of custom chandelier by Canopy Designs you have yourself one lovely area to gather with friends and family.

We had custom window treatments made for the kitchen area and installed a pendant from Visual Comfort, which you can purchase for retail at Circa Lighting, next to our clients fun retro artwork.

I hired Kate to makeover my new living space – living, dining and kitchen. I had never worked with a design firm before and decided on KMID because Kate was such a breath of fresh air. I was looking for someone who could help make my space eclectic and cool while still being functional and easy. Kate quickly paired me up perfectly with Thiara from her team, who is an absolute style inspiration. Kate and Thiara were amazing to work with!

The experience was very collaborative. Kate and Thiara visited the space and we had a consultation about my thoughts, preferences and budget. A couple weeks later they came back with a design that optimized the layout, incorporated my existing pieces, and added a tremendous mix of unique pieces, fun prints and bold colors. With the proposal and the samples provided, I was able to envision the new space. We discussed each piece individually and as part of the whole so I could really focus on where I wanted to invest. From there we made some tweaks so that the finished space truly feels like it represents me with its mix of vintage pieces, unique lighting and eclectic prints and textures.

I am absolutely thrilled with my new home! It is even more than I hoped for! I would not hesitate to engage with KMID in the future or to recommend their services to others.
